2nd day of 4th blockade goes on

Shawdesh Desk:

The second day of the countrywide 48-hour blockade, called by Bangladesh Nationalist Party, its allies in the ongoing movement and Jamaat, was underway on Monday morning.

The blockade started at 6:00am on Sunday and will end at 6:00am on Tuesday.

The aim of the blockade is to mount pressure on the government to step down and hold the next election under a non-partisan administration.

The number of vehicles on the street in Dhaka on Monday was more compared to the three previous blockades.

Office-goers, students and other commuters were seen going to their destinations.

Unidentified miscreants set two buses on fire in the capital’s Tejgaon and Narayanganj’s Adamjee EPZ areas on Sunday night.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday called upon the country’s people and BNP supporters to observe the blockade and make it successful.

Vehicles of newspapers or media, ambulances and vehicles transporting oxygen cylinders and medicines will remain out of the purview of the blockade.

Earlier, the BNP, Jamaat enforced two rounds of 48-hour nationwide blockade from November 5 to 9 with a break on November 7 and a three-day countrywide blockade from October 31.

The blockades were marked by widespread incidents of clashes, violence and torching of several dozens of vehicles.
